Being Singular

Page history last edited by Crystal 2 yrs ago

According to Ulmer the only way anyone knows how to act is to emulate an image or images. To him each person is an amalgamation of all the attuening forces they are surrounded by. When asked to break myself apart into different settings it is somewhat difficult due to the overlap in these forces.

In my group, oral, life there are many different catagories that can be expressed. I still try to be an individual when surrounded by others but I know I am also trying to fit in, to be the image of a good friend, coworker or wife.

My inner character is heavily based on my oral life; I often see myself as a likable person who wants to be surrounded by people who want to be there. Privately I am a religious person who values familiy, friends and my life. I try very hard to fight against the image of a religous person that I was exposed to as a teen in a Baptist school. I don't believe in the intolerance that is preached by many of our "accepting" preachers and figureheads.

I don't know of just one image that would define my singularity. Instead, I think I am a image of many pop-culture icons, my parents and the characters from all the books I have read.
